Running The Weave Poles
In this sport, dogs race through a straight line of up to 60 upright poles called “weave poles” in head-to-head competitions.
Often included in dog agility trials, weave pole racing or slalom racing is usually dominated by border collies and other herding breeds. Two competing dogs line up in front of two identical sets of poles and run through the course at speed as their handlers trot along beside them. The dogs develop a rhythm as they bounce through the poles, side-stepping or one-stepping the poles as they complete the course in 20 seconds or less. If a dog “pops a pole,” or misses one of the openings between the poles, it must return to the missed pole and continue from there.
The Purina® Pro Plan® Incredible Dog Challenge is the premier weave pole competition, crowning a national champion in 30-Weave each year at the end of a series of regional competitions across the USA.
