Magnifique Recipe Contest

Plugrá European Style Butter is offering $5,000, a trip for two to New York City and the chance to appear on a local food show alongside a professional chef for the best compound butter recipe in its Magnifique Recipe Contest.

Fifty runners-up will receive a butter bell crock handcrafted by a master potter.

Compound butters are a mixture of ingredients added to a primary base of Plugra European Style Butter. According to Plugra, blended butters are one of the fastest growing trends in cooking today thanks to the creativity and versatility they add to any meal. Butter combinations can complement any number of foods and even enhance pairings with specific wines.

Ocean Spray Ultimate Cranberry Recipe Contest

The second annual Ocean Spray Ultimate Cranberry Recipe Contest is offering a $25,000 cash prize for the best cranberry infused recipes using Ocean Spray products.

Recipes must be original, use Ocean Spray products and can be entered in a variety of categories ranging from beverages to baked goods. Recipes will be judged on creativity, ease of preparation, taste, appearance and appeal. Each finalist recipe will be featured on the Ocean Spray website.

There are two sections of the contest - one for home cooks and one for foodservice professionals.

The contest for home cooks began March 11 and ends at 12:00 p.m. EDT on May 30, 2008. The contest for foodservice professionals began March 11 and ends at 4:00 p.m. EDT on June 30, 2008 .

Sweet Rewards Recipe Contest for Canned Louisiana Sweet Potatoes

The Louisiana Sweet Potato Commission, along with Louisiana Cookin’ magazine, invites all cooks, amateur and professional, to open up a can of sweet potatoes and showcase their culinary creativity during its fourth annual Sweet Rewards Recipe Contest for Canned Louisiana Sweet Potatoes.

The contest, which ends June 1, will award one overall grand prize winner from the four amateur categories $1,000.00. One additional winner from each of the five categories will receive $500.00.

Interested cooks can enter an original yam recipe in one of four amateur categories, including breads & breakfast, desserts, side, soups and or in a new professional category. (In order to qualify for the professional category, the contestant must be a professional chef or work full time in the food service industry.)

Students may enter in any of the four amateur categories. Multiple entries from one individual will be accepted. There is no entry fee.

“Taste of Your Town” Pizza Recipe Contest

Bolla Wines of Italy is having a “Taste of Your Town” Pizza Recipe Contest.

Seeking “the best regional pizza recipes in the United States,” the contest will favor entries with ingredients local to the contestant.

To enter, submit a pizza recipe that includes local ingredients that represent your part of the country along with a suggested Bolla wine pairing.

Five First-Place regional winners will receive a Bolla pizza pack (pizza cutter, pizza stone, pizza peel) and a Delonghi pizza oven. One ultimate champion wins a trip for two to the Bolla Winery in Verona, Italy, along with tickets to the 2009 World Pizza Championships in Europe.

America’s Favorite Recipe Sweepstakes

If your recipe didn’t make it to the finals of the 43rd Bake-Off® Contest sponsored by Pillsbury Bake-Off, you could still win $1 million in the contest.

This year the recipes of the 100 finalists in the contest have been posted online. Eligible voters will be entered into the sweepstakes for a chance to win a $1 million prize. One voter will be randomly drawn, and if that voter picked the recipe that received the Grand Prize at the Bake-Off® Contest finals, that voter will also win $1 million!

Virgin Earth Challenge

A prize of $25 million is being offered for whoever can demonstrate to the judges’ satisfaction a commercially viable design which results in the removal of anthropogenic, atmospheric greenhouse gases so as to contribute materially to the stability of Earth’s climate. Announced by Sir Richard Branson and Al Gore, the prize is designed to encourage a viable technology which will result in the removal of at least 1 billion tons of atmospheric carbon dioxide equivalent per year. The initial closing date for Virgin Earth Challenge is 8 February 2010. If the judges deem that no design submitted by that stage is worthy of the prize, it will re-open for two more year-long phases..
